The Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts (WCPA) announces its 2018 Ten-Minute-Play Competition, the organization’s eighteenth play competition. The WCPA Play Competition is dedicated to showcasing new works by playwrights and is sponsored by the non-profit Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts in Westcliffe, Colorado.
A panel of jurors from the local and regional theater community reviews submissions and selects, anonymously, the winning plays, which then will be produced by the WCPA’s Jones Theater on Friday, September 21, and Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. Cast members will be drawn from the local actors’ group, the Westcliffe Center Players, and directors will be chosen to mount the plays.
For submission guidelines, the online entry form, and contact information, please visit our Call Board.
The Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts regularly provides summer internships for qualified drama students at its facility at the Jones Theater in Westcliffe, Colorado. The internships run nine weeks from May 13 through July 15 and are limited to four students.
The interns participate in every facet of theater work. They will be involved in one outdoor stage production of: Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Molière’s The Miser. They will have roles in acting or in technical production work such as lighting, set design, building, and set decoration.
Interns also work with local children for a two-week-long session of our summer Creativity Camp, now in its twenty-seventh year. The Creativity Camps consist of theater training for children ages 7-12 in improvisation, theater games, story telling, makeup, and costume. At the end of the two-week session, the children present original skits, which they have developed with the help of the interns.
Applications for internships must be received before March 12, 2018. Please visit our Call Board for additional details about this important WCPA program and for contact information.
Each season WCPA /Jones theater welcomes new actors, musicians, and costumers for our Shakespeare in the Sangres productions. There are always a number of small and sometimes larger roles to fill, especially for men. If you have always wanted to try your hand at acting in Shakespeare this is your chance. We also have a large costume shop but we always need volunteers to help choose, make or remake costumes for our productions. If this sounds like an interesting opportunity for you to get involved in these exciting productions, please email your availability, willingness, and experience, and we will be in touch. Who knows you might become one of our newest stars!
