Call for Entries: The WCPA Ten-Minute-Play Competition

The Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts (WCPA) Annual Ten-Minute-Play Competition is the organization’s is dedicated to showcasing new works by playwrights and is sponsored by the non-profit Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts in Westcliffe, Colorado.

A panel of jurors from the local and regional theater community reviews submissions and selects, anonymously, the winning plays, which then will be produced by the WCPA’s Jones Theater.

Winning plays will be produced later in the year. Cast members will be drawn from the local actors’ group, the Westcliffe Center Players, and directors will be chosen to mount the plays.

Play Submission Guidelines

• Submissions consist of a completed submission form, your script, and a $10 submissions fee.  We prefer to accept submissions online, but will also accept them by mail, as detailed below.
• Each script must be no more than ten minutes in length.
• The play must be typewritten (or word processed) on 8.5″ by 11″ paper. Include the name of the play on each page and number each page.
• DO NOT put the author’s name on manuscript pages (evaluations will be conducted blindly), only on the play submission form. The play must be typed in standard play format using one side of each page only.
• Each playwright may submit one script—send your best!
• The play must be original and not have been produced or published. Previously submitted plays, plays that received an Equity production, musicals (music in a play is acceptable as long as it does not require orchestration), children’s shows, and any unsolicited longer one-act or full-length plays are not accepted and will not be returned or receive a response.
• Competition is restricted to English language submissions only.
• There are no contractual obligations or royalties paid to playwrights whose scripts are selected as finalists or competition winning plays. Finalist plays may be asked to give limited license for productions to be filmed and posted on our website or on our YouTube Channel.
• Plays are limited to 4 characters or less, and can be set-up and struck within 5 minutes or less.
• The play must be appropriate for a community theater presentation.
• Please consider general audience appropriate language in your script dialogue. DO NOT SUBMIT “Mature Audience Only” material.
